Now there is a way to see how great (or not great) your charger is! Don’t worry, you don’t have to go to Radio Shack and buy some electronic equipment, this can all be done with an app.
The app is called Ampere
, and it is available on the Google Play store. Let us start out by saying it works on “most” Android devices, and only on Android 4.0.3 and up.
If you are a hardcore electronics nut with a degree in engineering, this app is not for you. It is meant to give you a general idea of how good your phone charger is.
To use the app, open it up on your phone while it is charging, and have a look.
How fast, or not fast your phone charges depends on a number of different things, such as:
- the USB cable you are using
- how old your phone is
- what is running on your phone
- Bluetooth / WiFi / Location / GPS (on or off)
- the actual charger you are using
We tried this app for the first time, and right away saw some really cool stuff. The first part of the image, you can see it was measuring. The second part, we tested a regular Anker charger with a crappy micro-USB cable. The last we used a premium Anker cable in the IQ port.
