Short post, I know but I wanted to write this up for those of you looking for an answer to this problem. The issue is this: you’ve got a phone such as an HTC 10, new Samsung Galaxy and the only port it has is the new USB-C port. First off: great news! This is the new USB standard that gets some really fast data transfer rates.
Also worth noting: while the title of this post is “how to plug a USB stick into a USB-C Phone” this method will also help you plug a USB stick into many devices that have a USB-C input, such as a laptop or desktop computer.
The problem is, most USB sticks won’t plug in directly to a phone with a USB-C connector. In fact, they don’t plug into the older micro-USB ports either.
Solution: get the Anker USB-C to USB 3.1 adapter! This is a highly rated product, that has been on the market for a while now.
After you’ve grabbed it from Amazon, grab your phone and find your USB-C port. Most likely it is at the bottom of your phone. Plug the USB-C end (the small end) into your phone, and plug the USB 3.1 end (the larger end) into your thumb drive / USB stick.
From there, you’ll get some sort of message on your phones screen asking you what to do. Make sure to allow it, and mount it as a drive.
After that, you’ll need to open a file manager on your phone to access the files on your USB stick.
The other great thing about this product is that it enables you to plug in older USB cables to charge your USB-C device. Since USB-C is a relatively new thing, this is a great little adapter to have on hand either way. I bought 3 of them recently, one for home, one for work and one for my bag.
